Conference: Seabeds: Geomorphology and sedimentation

Next May 16, at 12:00 a.m., the conference “Seabeds: Geomorphology and sedimentation” will take place. The talk will be given by Gemma Ercilla, Scientific Researcher at the ICM-CSIC, geologist and graduate of the UPV/EHU. Gemma is an expert in marine geology and has extensive experience in organizing oceanographic campaigns to study the ocean floor. This conference will be the last of the series “Underwater Robots, Offshore Wind Power and Geology”..

The talk will take place in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Science and Technology (Leioa Campus). In addition, it will be available online via streaming:

The objective of this cycle of conferences is to present the most relevant aspects of the development of offshore wind energy, such as the importance of knowledge about the seabed and the role that underwater robots play in it.

Experts in these fields will explain the expectations in the development of offshore wind energy in the world, what techniques are used to study the seabed or the importance of geological knowledge for planning wind farms, among other issues. In addition, the usefulness and application of underwater robots in the study of the oceans and in the installation and maintenance of wind farms and other offshore infrastructures will be highlighted. Finally, through these conferences, the need for a multidisciplinary approach in the development of marine renewable energies will be shown, emphasizing the role of the different scientific specialties, so that attendees can assess the interest of the issues addressed in their career.

This series of conferences is aimed at education cycle students, and students and graduates of Engineering and Science careers, such as Geology, Biology or Physics, as well as the general public who are curious and interested in offshore renewable energies, the study of the marine and underwater robots.
