Dr. Néstor Vegas

UPV/EHU

Néstor Vegas is a senior researcher at the Department of Geology of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU).

He obtained his combined B.S. and M.S. degree in Geology in 1996 at the UPV/EHU. In 1997 he got an internship in the Department of Oceanography and Marine Environment of AZTI. In 1998 he started his PhD in Structural Geology at the UPV/EHU, ending it in 2002 (Cum Laude, extraordinary prize).

He enjoyed of a postdoctoral stay from 2002 to 2004 at the Laboratoire des Mécanismes et Transferts en Géologie in Toulouse, France, where he worked in the domain of rock magnetism.

From 2005 to 2012 he rejoined the UPV/EHU working as postdoctoral researcher and assistant professor in the Department of Geodynamics where since 2013 he occupies his actual position.

Dr. Néstor Vegas research interest deal with the study of the structure of rocks combining classical techniques of structural analysis, field work and magnetism of rocks. He is actually IP in a project focused on the development of offshore geological cartographies from high-resolution bathymetric data sets. He has published 1 edited volume and is author or co-author of over 50 peer-reviewed articles.
